Becky's Bespoke Wedding cakes - Cheshire based cake baker.

Have you ever wanted to ask a supplier questions but held back? Hopefully this blog with help answer your cake related questions.

Every baker is different but today I had the lovely opportunity to ask Becky from Becky's Bespoke Wedding Cakes based in Crewe some questions. Becky made our wedding cake when we got married last year so I knew I'd instantly love meeting Becky in her kitchen for a chat and to take some photos.

How long have you been baking cakes professionally?

Professionally for 6years. I started with birthday and occasion cakes for friends and family. Then their friends and then friends of friends. I was asked to do wedding cakes and then the wedding cakes side really became popular.

How far in advance should couples be booking?

Ideally 6months, I do get booked up a few months in advance, but feel free to check my availability but just be prepared that I may be booked up.

What sort of cost are people looking at for a wedding cake?

It all depends on how many people you're needing to cater for, what details you have and what flavour you have. Two tiers start from £195. Three tiers start from £295. Four tiers start from £395. Five tiers starting from £495.

How long does it take?

Depending on details 3-4days.

What are the most popular flavours at the moment?

Red velvet, Cherry Bakewell, Lemon. Fruit cake although traditional isn't being chosen as much.

What trends are you seeing?

Naked and semi naked wedding cakes are extremely popular. Also alternative wedding cakes, people want one side traditional which a surprise on the other. One of my favourites was a four tier Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings cake. It went viral on Facebook and got thousands of comments and shares.

How do you feel about people cutting your creations?

I know people don't want to cut into their cakes as they say they don't want to ruin it. I see it as that's what its there for, to enjoy not only as something to look at but to enjoy eating as well.

I've heard people freeze cakes, is this ok?!

Yes of course! Some people decide they want to take their favourite tier home but can't eat it all before their honeymoon. Pop some cling film around, in the freezer and just defrost for 24 hours before eating.

What Venues have you delivered your cakes too?

I've made cakes for so many venues in and around Cheshire, some are my favourites are: Sandhole Oak Barn, The Ashes Wedding Barns, Thornton Manor, Crewe Hall, Wrenbury Hall and Rookery Hall.

Thanks to Becky for answering my questions. Don't be afraid to put any questions to your suppliers, it's your way of feeling comfortable before your big day!
