A chat with Cheshire makeup artist Yasmin, from Honeyblush.

Last year I had the pleasure of working with Yasmin and Rhian from Honeyblush at Rachael and Rhys' gorgeous wedding at Tilstone House. Honeyblush is a makeup and hair bar based in Nantwich, they have a lot to offer including makeup, makeup lessons, hair styling, nails, eye brow and eyelash treatments. The girls are so lovely and friendly, and the make up for Rachael and her bridesmaids was flawless, I heard so many compliments from guests too. So I wanted to find out more regarding bridal makeup so I got in touch and Yasmin was more than happy to answer my questions and hopefully this relaxed interview style blog can help future brides.

How long have you been a makeup artist?

6 years.

What questions should potential brides be asking when looking for their makeup artist?

Questions to ask would be, how long have you been in the wedding industry for? This will give you an indication as to how much experience they have doing wedding make up. Another question to ask would be what products they use? At Honeyblush we only use a high end products because we find these products stay on better and give a better finish. Not to say there isn't High Street brands that are good because that certainly is but for long-lasting wear, we have always found high end brands to be the best. This will go along with the price you are paying also. Another good question to ask would be do you work alone or do you have assistance. Weddings are usually early starts and there is usually a large group of people so we tend to always take two people out to the job to make the morning run more smoothly in the limited time we have.

How far in advance do you recommend booking?

We would recommend booking approximately two years beforehand. Some make-up artist will take bookings for three or four years in advance but I feel like committing to something that far down the line can sometimes be concerning, you don’t know what you’re going to be doing next year never mind in four years time. So if someone is quick to take a deposit off you just be wary that life circumstances can change. We have never opened our diary for more than two years in advance and we tell brides to come back when we have reopened them.

Do you recommend a make-up trial, if so how long before the day should the trial be done?

Yes 100% you must have a make up trial this is really important. The only reason for not having a make up trial is if you are regular client of that make-up artist and they know exactly what you like and how your skin works.

You're based in Nantwich, how far do you travel?

We would go as far as abroad to do weddings. We have never had the pleasure to do that yet hopefully one day. But we have travelled across the country doing them at some incredible venues.

What trends are you seeing in bridal makeup?

Brides usually tend to go for glory, soft Glam make up using gold and soft pink tones on their eyes. You will get some brides who want it really natural and then others wanted a little bit more but then it’s personal preference.

What are your tips for brides?

Make sure you’re prepared when going to a hair or make up trial make sure you bring along pictures of the styles you like inspiration, the colours of your bridesmaids dresses just so that they can get a good idea of the vibe that you’re going for and what sort of person you are. A good make-up artist will try and get to know you a little bit to make sure they’re on the same wavelength as you.

What's the best part about your job?

Definitely meeting different people and finding out about their stories where they work where they’ve been on holiday what do you enjoy doing it’s such a refreshment to learn about other peoples lives.

And finally, where can people find you, website/social media etc?

We are based in Nantwich town centre and we have Instagram and Facebook
